Sniff

Sniff is a free app for recording a dog’s daily activities and spotting patterns in their routine. Inspired by life with our rescue beagle, I designed the product, brand and site, and built the app with Claude. It’s currently in testing ahead of launch.

Our behaviourist asked us to keep a record of our rescue beagle’s routine. Walks, chews, lick mats and snuffle mats were part of everyday life, but remembering what happened and when was difficult. I made Sniff to make recording easier and give us a clearer history to share.

The starting point is what owners already do. Choose the activities you do with your dog, then tap each time you do one. No lengthy profile or setup. Sniff records the time and builds a daily history in the background.

Recording should take seconds. Understanding the history should be straightforward too. Sniff brings patterns from your logs into plain-language summaries, with more detailed charts available when you want to explore further.

As Sniff developed, I added customisable triggers to record stressful encounters alongside everyday activities. Owners can log these on their own or during walks, then review them together in daily timelines.

A simple nose symbol, warm colours and playful typography give Sniff a friendly identity, carried through the app, site, stickers and posters.

I used Gemini to develop a character based on our beagle, refining his markings, expression and poses into a consistent set. I then animated selected poses into short loops for the site and app.
